The devotions to Our Mother of Perpetual Help have been in existence since 1866 when the miraculous picture of Our Mother of Perpetual Help was entrusted to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, commonly referred to as the Redemptorists, founded by St. Alphonsus Liguori. At that time, Pope Pius IX asked the Redemptorists to "Make Our Mother of Perpetual Help known throughout the world."
In 1918, the Redemptorists founded Holy Name Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Since that date, the Solemn Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help has been prayed during each Mass on every Tuesday in Holy Name Church. Thousands have worshipped at her shrine and found comfort and salvation; countless souls have been brought back to her Divine Son, untold blessings have been showered on the Parish and those who seek her assistance.
During World War II, Holy Name has numerous Masses each Tuesday as people flocked to pray for peace through the devotions to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Today, many battles are being fought around the world. Our goal is to seek world peace through the power of prayer to Our Mother of Perpetual Help.
Several years ago, the Redemptorists transferred the Parish to the Omaha Archdiocese, but the Novena continues uninterrupted. Holy Name Parish is joining with Spirit Catholic Radio - KVSS, Veni, Sancte Spiritus, to bring the devotion to the world. Through the radio and the power of the Internet, it will be possible to join Holy Name and others around the world in this devotion.
